| GENERAL
TRAINING SESSIONS OFFERED BY NETWORK CULTURES-EUROPE |
1) "Taking cultural dynamics into account"
This training
and reflection session lasts from 1 to 3 days.
It intends to raise awareness of the importance and role of culture
in social life and in development and "partnership". It also
involves an exchange of experiences in the field followed by analyses
of these experiences (experiments in social and economic alternatives,
innovative local initiatives, development projects, humanitarian
actions, awareness campaigns etc). It is geared towards local
situations, both in the South and in the North.
2) "Cultural differences: sources of disagreements and
misunderstandings or sources of mutual enrichment?"
This training
and reflection session lasts 1 or 2 days.
It revolves around the differences between traditional (today often
neo-traditional) cultures seeking "harmony" and focusing on group
consciousness and modern (western) culture focussing on mastership and
the individual. Using ideal-types drawn from both cultures,
specific patterns of behaviour or modes of organisation are seen as
leaning towards one or the other "polarity". This enables participants
to identify the characteristics found in today's mixed and changing
cultures and thus an understanding and management of cultural
differences. The many misunderstandings and disagreements between the
"North" and "South" and between Western and Central and Eastern Europe,
between local cultures and "the culture of modern development", are
thus addressed, clarified and discussed. The possible differences in
cosmology, religion, the place of the human being in society, values
and norms, social organisation, economy, politics etc. are reviewed.
New perspectives on partnership based on mutual respect emerge.
Participants
to both sessions:
- actors at the
local level, both local and foreign
- decision-makers
- funding agencies
These training
sessions are offered either "intra" at the request of a specific group
or "inter" for a variety of participants either in the premises of
Network Cultures in Bangalore, Rio de Janeiro, Rabat or Brussels or in
a place suggested by the client.
